Welcome to the Australian Cattle Dog Herding Website.

The Australian Cattle Dog, also known as the Blue Heeler or Queensland Heeler, is a hearty breed developed in Australia in the mid 1800's to help stockman round up and move wild range cattle in the Australian outback. From this fiery forge was developed a dog with incredible stamina, a strong will and fierce loyalty. Australian Cattle Dogs are quiet workers but are willing to take on trouble-makers. They have a strong bite, and an instinctual heeling technique that allows them to move cattle with fewer injuries. Australian Cattle Dogs tend to be close workers, but can be trained to work further off stock. Contrary to popular belief they are not just "driving" dogs. They have natural fetch and balance and exhibit loose to medium eye. While the breed excels at working cattle, they may also be trained to handle sheep, fowl and hogs. For more information on working style check out the Working Standard page.

Training requires a strong but fair hand. Australian Cattle dogs form life long bonds with their owners and are fiercely loyal. Do to this bonding they are not easily transferred to another handler. While Australian Cattle Dogs can make good pets, they require homes with plenty of activities and exercise. Australian Cattle Dogs need to have a job and a purpose in the household whether on a ranch or in an apartment.
